Is Church attendance really necessary? Isn’t it good enough if I just pray everyday and read my Bible? Why do I need to go to Church?

The Bible tells us in Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

I encourage you to read Hebrews chapter 2, paying special attention to verses 5-18. This is speaking about our Salvation and the Lord Jesus as the founder of our Salvation. Verse 12 in particular says this “Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.”

Our New Testament King James Bible was translated out of the Greek Textus Receptus meaning the Received Text and the Greek word there is “ekklēsia” and it means called out assembly.

Many of Paul’s epistles were written exclusively to local, called out assemblies. God works through the local Church.

But Why should you go to Church? Here are three reasons why a believer, a child of God, a Christian should go to Church.
1. For Fellowship. Hebrews 10:25 tells us to “…exhorting one another…” It is difficult to encourage each other if you are not physically in attendance at Church.

Your presence is an encouragement to the Shepherd… the Pastor. It is an encouragement to the Sheep… the other members of your local assembly. Most importantly it is an encouragement to the Saviour… the Lord Jesus himself. Church is where we worship. When you are at Church it is sending a message that you are willing to take time out to worship the Lord Jesus.

2. For Feeding. I Peter 5:2 commands the Pastor to “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;”

It is the responsibility of the Pastor to Feed the Flock… to Preach the Word. If you are not in attendance you cannot get fed at feeding time.

3. For Faith. The third reason why you should go to Church is for Faith… to build your faith, to develop your faith, to strengthen your faith.

Matthew 18:20 says “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Romans 10:17 declares “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

The Church needs your Fellowship. You will be encouraged by Feeding on the word of God and this will develop and grow your faith.

Church Attendance tells those around you that you are putting God first.
