“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” – Psalm 63:1

The secret to spiritual strength is not found in rushing into the day but in rising to seek the Lord. David, a man after God’s own heart, declared with great yearning, “Early will I seek thee.” Before the responsibilities of kingship, before the noise of the world, David made it his practice to seek the face of God. And if David, a mighty warrior, a seasoned leader, a man after God’s own heart needed early communion with the Lord, how much more do we?

Seeking God early is more than a matter of clock time—it’s a matter of priority. To seek Him early means He comes first. Before texts, tasks, or talking with others, we are to talk with the Lord. The early morning hours offer a quietness that makes it easier to hear His still small voice. It is in those sacred early moments that our hearts are softened, our minds are focused, and our spirits are aligned with the will of God.

We live in a “dry and thirsty land,” spiritually speaking. The world offers no lasting refreshment for the soul. But the Lord satisfies. The man who seeks Him early will not walk through the day parched and powerless, but filled and strengthened. The woman who rises to meet with Christ before she meets with the world will carry His peace with her wherever she goes.

So set the tone for your day by seeking His face before anything else. Even five minutes in prayer and Scripture reading can transform the rest of your day. The dew of morning is where spiritual freshness begins. Rise early—not simply out of duty, but out of desire. Seek Him early, and you will find Him faithful.
